Hard pipe catch basin drainage systems collect excess water from surface landscaping and specific areas that tend to be prone to these problems. Water collects through a catch basin which has a grated top. This area (the catch basin) collects debris to prevent clogging of the drain. Proper installation is required for the system to operate correctly.
To construct a French Drain you dig a trench that will accommodate a 4" or 6" perforated drain pipe at the bottom of the trench and backfill with gravel or similar material. Then top soil is added to the remaining opening to disguise the drain top. French Drains work well but if improperly installed will not last.
